The Chesterfield sofa is an iconic piece of British furniture with a distinctive style and timeless appeal. The Chesterfield was invented in the mid-1700s, by Lord Philip Stanhope, Fourth Earl of Chesterfield, who commissioned a piece of furniture for his guests to sit on. The Chesterfield’s iconic style is defined by its roll arms, low back, deep buttoning and is traditionally upholstered in dark leather.

The Clarence range is characterised by its deep buttoned detailing, intricate hand pleated classic roll arms, tailored piping, and feature studding. We have recently updated this iconic piece to incorporate additional design features, including button detailing to the border and an extra rolled upholstery feature under the seat cushions. We have also introduced further traditional furniture making techniques to improve comfort and achieve a rounder back and arms to complete the classic Chesterfield look. This piece will make a statement in any interior setting including reception areas, traditional lounges, and libraries.
Introducing the Clarence Fluted
Newly added to the range, the Clarence Fluted, a modern and contemporary take on the traditional Chesterfield design. The Clarence Fluted collection features the characteristic roll arms and low back of the iconic Chesterfield design but has an elegant fluted back and arms for a cleaner, softer look.
