RUSTINGTON CENTRE OF WELLBEING

LITTLEHAMPTON, EAST SUSSEX

The Rustington Centre of Wellbeing plays a key role in supporting our blind veterans on their journey towards independence and rebuilding their lives after sight loss. The Centre is run by Blind Veterans UK, a charity which supports anyone who has served in the armed forces and who is now living with significant sight loss.

The new Centre of Wellbeing has recently moved to a seafront location in Rustington on the South Coast of England. The Rustington Centre offers residential and nursing stays for blind veterans with 35 bedrooms and a host of amenities including communal lounges, dining rooms, activity rooms, a cinema, hair salon and bar.

The interior design was led by HomeSmiths who selected Shackletons furniture for the project. This included bespoke bedroom cabinetry comprising wardrobes with a sliding door and illuminated hanging rail, a dressing table with a hidden fridge, and matching drawers and bedside cabinets.

A new corner sofa was designed for the communal lounge, the Roehampton sofa has been adapted due its linear shape which ideally suited the corner concept. The Roehampton Corner will be added to our existing upholstered furniture range.

Statement pieces were chosen to elevate the scheme, including the Valls High Back Chair for reception with its architectural shape, which was elegantly upholstered in contrast fabrics and accent piping which supports the veterans to identify the shape of the furniture and sit independently.

Jacqui Smith, Director for HomeSmiths commented on the finished project, “The client wanted to create a homely, supportive environment for their new wellbeing centre. Known for comfort, Shackletons furniture absolutely plays its part in this. We are all delighted with the end results and love seeing the new spaces used by veterans as well as the team who support them down in Rustington.”
