King’s Court is a brand-new flagship luxury care home located in the historic town of Holt in Norfolk. The ‘next generation’ home has been designed to deliver the high-quality features you would expect in a top-class hotel, with the residents’ wellbeing at the centre. The care home was a finalist in both Knight Frank Luxury Care Awards and the Society of British & International Design Awards 2024.
The home has 66 luxury bedrooms, including larger premium rooms, combined with spacious and elegant living areas such as a stunning double-height atrium and reception, a state-of-the-art cinema room, a chic café, and a private dining room. In addition, there is a lounge, dining room and quiet room on each floor.
The brief for HomeSmiths, the interior designers for this ambitious project, was to design an interior that embodied the elegance and luxury of a top-class hotel, combined with the personal touches to make it feel like home.
To achieve this vision, HomeSmiths selected Shackletons furniture for all the lounges, dining rooms, communal spaces, and bedrooms. The architecture and colour pallet of historic Holt, and the surrounding areas, served as the inspiration for the home’s interior design.
HomeSmiths selected statement pieces from Shackletons design-led collections that would elevate the space to complement the client’s luxury brief while being practical, comfortable, and ergonomically designed for residents. Signature pieces that were perfect to achieve this luxury vision included the sumptuous Loxley armchairs, sofas, and ottomans with castor legs; the sleek Orto Luxe low back armchair; and the shapely and classically styled Haworth, Valls, Chichester, and Salas high back chairs.
In order to achieve the luxury hospitality style, exquisite healthcare fabrics, including sumptuous velvets and striking decorative patterned fabrics, were chosen to upholster the furniture, with careful consideration paid to tone, contrast, texture, and practicality.
Stand-out cabinetry pieces were selected alongside the upholstered furniture throughout the spaces, including the Paxton sideboard, Aberford pedestal tables, Isola side table, and Lowell dining table in the private dining room.
For each of the 66-bedrooms, bespoke cabinetry was designed to maximise the space and provide ample storage, which was all seamlessly integrated into the room’s design. The Windsor double pedestal dressing table was chosen by the client, together with the Denia wingback chair. For the premium suites, a small sitting area was created with a pair of Valls armchairs and the Aberford side table.
