This is a Level 2 apprenticeship in Furniture Making: Modern Upholsterer in partnership with Kirklees College. The apprenticeship is for 24 months with four days working on-site at Shackletons and one day per week at college.
As an Apprentice Modern Upholsterer at Shackletons, you will embark on a hands-on learning experience, working closely with experienced craftsmen and craftswomen. This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to develop essential skills in modern upholstery techniques, fabric selection, and furniture assembly, contributing to the production of our premium furniture pieces.
Hands-On Training:
- Work alongside experienced upholsterers to learn and master modern upholstery techniques.
- Participate in the fabrication of upholstered chairs and sofas according to design specifications.
Material Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation and cutting of upholstery materials such as fabrics and padding.
- Learn how to interpret design plans and patterns for accurate material use.
Assembly and Finishing:
- Gain practical experience in assembling upholstered furniture components.
- Contribute to the finishing process, including attaching covers, cushions, and decorative elements.
Quality Assurance:
- Learn to conduct quality inspections to ensure finished products meet company standards.
- Collaborate with the quality control team to address and rectify any identified issues.
Safety and Compliance:
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines for working with upholstery tools and materials.
- Develop an understanding of regulatory and safety requirements in furniture manufacturing.
Entry Requirements
- GCSE English and maths at grade 2 or above.
