As we welcome the start of 2023, a new colour of the year has been revealed by the Pantone Colour Institute. Viva Magenta 18-750 has been described as ‘unconventional colour for an unconventional time’.
“Viva Magenta merges the richness, warmth and strength of the natural world with the rich open horizons of the digital world” according to the Pantone Institute.
The appreciation of colour
Magenta is a vibrant red shade rooted in nature with organic origins. It is a hybrid of red and pink with blue and purple undertones which promotes optimism and joy.
Viva Magenta pairs well with deep jewel tones like emerald green and navy blue, as well as pops of neon. It can be softened by pairing with muted earthy hues like sandy beige and cinnamon brown.
The Pantone Colour Institute has been championing colours of the year for over 20 years. The programme aims to highlight the relationship between colour and culture and are chosen to reflect the global culture at a specific moment in time.
Viva Magenta is described as a ‘transformative colour capable of driving design to create a more positive future’.
