World Earth Day 2024: Shackletons Plants 10,000 Trees

This World Earth Day (22 April 2024), Shackletons are pleased to announce we have planted over 10,000 trees as part of our ongoing partnership with Tree-Nation.

Through Tree-Nation, Shackletons have planted 10,387 trees in the Eden Reforestation Project in Madagascar to help combat climate change, protect biodiversity and preserve our ecosystems.

Deforestation is a major issue in Madagascar because of its high concentration of endemic species and extreme rates of habitat loss. The Eden Reforestation programme began in 2007 and since its inception over 23 million mangroves and dry deciduous trees have been planted in this remote area of northwest Madagascar. Local villagers are hired to plant the trees providing them with fair-wage employment so they can provide for their families.

Donna Bellingham, CEO of Shackletons comments: “From sourcing the finest timbers through to production and delivery, we are constantly striving to minimise our environmental impact. Our continued partnership with Tree-Nation is just one of the ways we are supporting this commitment, alongside local initiatives.”
